Fujitsu, Taiwan's III Forge New WiMAX Venture
May 16, 2008
Following the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed by both companies in December 2007, Fujitsu and Taiwan's III (Institute of Information Industry), a non-governmental organization sponsored by the Taiwanese government and private enterprises, recently confirmed that their new WiMAX joint venture in Taiwan will be inaugurated on May 20, 2008, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported.

The new venture is capitalized at around US$5.0 million, 51% of which was funded by Fujitsu and the remaining 49% by III and other Taiwanese private enterprises, according to the same report.

Pursuant to the agreement, the new company is projected to develop WiMAX application platforms leveraging Fujitsu's WiMAX SoC (System on Chip) solutions and III's software technologies. These platforms will be provided to Taiwanese ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers), assisting them in shortening the delivery of WiMAX products to the worldwide clients.
